Een situatie aangaande een Koerden in dit nieuwe Turkije blijft ingewikkeld en in 1978 is de verzetsbeweging PKK gesticht.

Krachtens het verdrag zou Turkije heel wat territorium verliezen en daar zou bij andere ons lokaal autonoom Koerdistan ontstaan, betreffende uitzicht op onafhankelijkheid indien aan bepaalde condities zou worden voldaan.

In die onafhankelijkheidsstrijd bestaan een Koerden het ook niet iedere keer betreffende elkander weleens, wellicht strijden ze immers tevens tegen elkaar. Bijvoorbeeld in de jaren zeventig, wanneer de Iraakse Koerden in opstand aankomen tegen hun president Saddam Hoessein, ze oplopen daarin hulp van een Perzische sjah. De Iraanse Koerden voeren desalniettemin wederom een strijd tegen diezelfde sjah en krijgen bovendien juist alweer steun betreffende Iraakse president Saddam.

Dit staat bekend indien dit Sykes-Picotverdrag. Een grenzen worden realiteit in 1920 tijdens dit tekenen van de Vrede met Sèvres. Een Koerden zijn op dat ogenblik gekomen zo verdeeld, dat ze er ook niet in slagen iemand met te wijzen als vertegenwoordiger tijdens een onderhandelingen. Zeker is daar een autonoom gebied voor hen aangewezen, hetgeen op termijn ook onafhankelijk kan geraken.

Iraqi Kurds have endured decades ofwel contention and bloodshed. During the Iran-Iraq War of the 1980s, Iraq attacked Kurdish civilians with chemical weapons and a rebellion was brutally suppressed. It was not until September 10, when an Iraqi army column was ambushed by a group of Kurds, that the Kurdish revolt truly began. In antwoord to the attack, Kurdistan Qasim lashed out and ordered the Iraqi Air Force to indiscriminately bomb Kurdish villages, which ultimately served to rally the entire Kurdish population to Barzani's standard. Due to Qasim's profound distrust of the Iraqi Army, which he purposely failed to adequately arm (in fact, Qasim implemented a policy ofwel ammunition rationing), Qasim's government was not able to subdue the insurrection.

Brod village, 15 kilometers away from Dragash Municipality, was one ofwel the important craft and trade centers of the region during the Ottoman period. This village, which has an altitude of 1400 meters and is close to the Macedonia-Kosovo border, is one of the places with onafgelaten migration.
